Barcelona
Back in 2017 – I had spoken to my friend Heidi about going on holiday together – as 2018 started, we began looking on Skyscanner for a good deal – not sure of the destination.
We finally booked after deciding on Barcelona and in May 2018 we jumped on a plane and went exploring.
The first thing we did was to take the Big Red Bus tour to have a quick whistle stop tour around the city and work out which areas we wanted to take a look at.
Park Guell, the Sagrada Familia and the Picasso museum were places that we knew wanted to visit but everything else was a spontaneous selection as we wandered around.
I would highly recommend pre-booking tickets for Park Guell and Sagrada Familia – we were lucky and were able to get tickets but we saw some people who didn’t get to go inside the unfinished church.
The Sagrada Família is a one-of-a-kind temple, for its origins, foundation and purpose. Fruit of the work of genius architect Antoni Gaudí, the project was promoted by the people for the people. Five generations now have watched the Temple progress in Barcelona.
Today, more than 135 years after the laying of the cornerstone, construction continues on the Basilica and is expected to be completed in 2026.
I didn’t take loads of food photos on this trip – but I have to say the patatas bravas from Taberna Mil Gritos were amazing – new potatoes with the middles filled with tomato sauce.
